520 working hours are needed to be eligible to be hired through Wake County! All hours from this school year will roll into the 25-26 school year!

Job Function:

We are staffing for multiple positions throughout Wake County for Cafe' Assistants for the 2024- 2025 school year. You will assist in the preparation of all meals by applying all basic principles of food production; to know how to use and care for all food service equipment.  

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:  

 

  • Learn and apply quantity food preparation methods and procedures
  • Read, interpret, and follow standardized recipes.  
  • Properly use and care for all equipment in Child Nutrition Program
  • Follow Sanitation and Safety procedures
  • Follow verbal and written work schedules and cleaning schedules as assigned by the Child Nutrition Manager and/or Assistant Manager
  • Collect and prepare leftover food for storage
  • Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment
  • Clean restroom, kitchen, serving, receiving and dining areas; this includes tables, serving lines, floors and loading dock.
  • Assist in any area in the Child Nutrition program as requested by his or her immediate supervisor
  • Comply with policies and procedures stated in the Wake County Child Nutrition Handbook.  
  • Communicate positively with school staff, students, parents, and visitors.


Work is performed indoors and in a standing position with exposure to frequent noise and heat. Some lifting up to 35 lbs required.  
Job Requirement:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required:  

 

  • High School diploma or equivalent.  
  • Food service experience preferred.  
  • Complete Wake County CNS new employee training program prior to reporting to work
  • Ability to read and interpret detailed instructions, schedules, and recipes
  • Ability to quickly process financial transaction using mathematical knowledge
  • Ability to learn food preparation skills on the job
  • Ability to work independently in completing food preparation and cleaning tasks within assigned time.
